Mona Eskandari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Cooperating Faculty title in the Department of Bioengineering, collaborating with the School of Medicine's multidisciplinary BREATHE center) at UC-Riverside. Her area of expertise is structural mechanics, specializing in biological systems. She is Principal Investigator of the bMECH Lab (bioMechanics Experimental and Computational Health laboratory), which sits at the interface of medicine and engineering, with an emphasis on pulmonary mechanics. Lung function is investigated using experimental tissue characterization (elasticity, temporal effects, strain-stiffening, etc.), computational simulations for predictive methodologies (constitutive modeling and finite element analysis), and theoretical frameworks (adaptation of biological materials through growth and remodeling). The bMECH lab seeks solutions to scientific questions surrounding lung disease through an engineering lens, ultimately aiming to enable and develop predictive technologies and optimize innovative strategies for medical intervention.
